How it works

We've got storytelling down to an art - let's walk you through our process

Technology at School

1

Schools Reach out

Schools and Kāhui Ako who are interested reach out and we have an initial hui.  This is to ascertain if a school is ready for the project and if they have the makings of a story. At this point we make a plan about starting or 'getting ready' which could include a period of time working on cultural capability or just to get started. Getting exciting!

Choose your package

Depending on your schools needs, select a package, starting with just a story in English.

Signing a Contract

3

Contract Signed

Once we know we have a story to be told, the school is issued with a contract and all the obligations of both parties are unpacked and agreed to. The school selects the scope of the project.

Join the Dots Hui

We begin researching the story by gathering all the evidence together, what do we know, what do we want to say and what do we need to find out?  Exciting!

Woman Writing

5

Research and Writing

The TYS team gets to work sorting and researching information for the story. They add to local stories, research via museums, Treaty documents, local government archives and whatever, wherever the research pathway takes them. The TYS writer comes up with a 'first draft' of the story to present to the stakeholders group. Then we begin the collaborative process of editing, writing and checking information.  Exciting and really rich!

Illustration Process

Once we have a story that we are happy with, we brief the illustrator. This could be someone local to your rohe, someone local could consult with our lead illustrator or we could get one of our illustration team to do this.  The stakeholders group are given 'sketches' to approve and when the final illustrations are complete, they are able to offer feedback and request a round of edits.  Easy as!
