How it works
We've got storytelling down to an art - let's walk you through our process
1
Schools Reach out
Schools and Kāhui Ako who are interested reach out and we have an initial hui. This is to ascertain if a school is ready for the project and if they have the makings of a story. At this point we make a plan about starting or 'getting ready' which could include a period of time working on cultural capability or just to get started. Getting exciting!
3
Contract Signed
Once we know we have a story to be told, the school is issued with a contract and all the obligations of both parties are unpacked and agreed to. The school selects the scope of the project.
4
Join the Dots Hui
We begin researching the story by gathering all the evidence together, what do we know, what do we want to say and what do we need to find out? Exciting!
5
Research and Writing
The TYS team gets to work sorting and researching information for the story. They add to local stories, research via museums, Treaty documents, local government archives and whatever, wherever the research pathway takes them. The TYS writer comes up with a 'first draft' of the story to present to the stakeholders group. Then we begin the collaborative process of editing, writing and checking information. Exciting and really rich!
6
Illustration Process
Once we have a story that we are happy with, we brief the illustrator. This could be someone local to your rohe, someone local could consult with our lead illustrator or we could get one of our illustration team to do this. The stakeholders group are given 'sketches' to approve and when the final illustrations are complete, they are able to offer feedback and request a round of edits. Easy as!
7
Story Translated
If you have wanted to add resources to your kete that support Te Reo Māori, NZSign Language, Te Reo Māori sign or any of the heritage languages of your community, we set about getting this done for you. Easy as!
8
School Approval
We then send everything back to the school to approve with their community. Here we make any further revisions before finalising the resources. Easy as!
9
Resources Created
Now we have a story and a set of 8 images, the TYS team set about creating your assets. Depending on what you decide to add to your kete, we source the experts and pull this together for you. Easy as!
10
School Portal Created
The school will be given access to these resources via their TYS portal. Currently this is housed on Vimeo and a Google Drive folder but will be integrated into the TYS website soon!
11
School Launch
This can look however you want! A teacher hui, a school wide launch.....we work on this together, get dates in and plan for the launch. Exciting as!
12
Curriculum Integration
Your school will be given access to these resources via their TYS portal. Currently this is housed on Vimeo but will be integrated into the TYS website soon!
