Beyond Celebrating Difference: Why bell hooks Matters in Aotearoa’s Classrooms
As I began reading Teaching to Transgress: Education as the Practice of Freedom, I found myself recognising many of the questions that have shaped my own work as an educator: Who gets to speak? Whose knowledge is valued? What helps learners feel that they genuinely belong? Are we teaching students to participate in education as it already exists, or are we allowing their presence to change it?
